Comprehension Skills for the English Curriculum Levels 34 is a collection of 14 short texts carefully selected from a range of genres newspaper articles, fiction, non-fiction and poetry for their appeal to students. Accompanying each text are a number of close reading questions for Year 8 and 9 students. These activities are presented at three levels of difficulty for each chapter. Teachers will be able to identify which specific reading skills need to be taught to target the needs of their students. Level/curriculum focus In keeping with the New Zealand curriculum, the author has chosen extracts which target: * structure of texts (or discourse structure) * grammar * conventions of written forms, including spelling and punctuation semantics or word meanings, and the relationships among these * phonology, including sounds, stress and intonation. Comprehension Skills for the English Curriculum Levels 34 also has an accompanying Teachers Guide which contains answers for the questions and an explanation of the three-level guide.
